Bloomberg Law Quotes John L. Shahdanian II on Religious Employers’ Liabilities for LGBTQ+ Discrimination Claims
John L. Shahdanian II, director and chair of the firm’s Labor and Employment Law practice group, was quoted in a Bloomberg Law article, LGBTQ+ Worker Rights Battle to Heat Up Post-Fifth Circuit Ruling, about religious employers’ liability for discrimination claims under Title VII and the Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA).
He notes the issue is far from settled. “There’s certainly more exposition on this issue that’s required by a higher court,” Shahdanian said. “I see this as a stopping point for refueling until we get a definitive ruling.”
As Chair of the firm’s Labor and Employment Law practice group, John provides counsel to employers about day-to-day business operations and staff management as well as complex matters related to discrimination claims, disability claims, sexual harassment, whistleblowing, noncompete clauses, wage and hour, family leave, and private sector labor law. He also provides important HR training programs for clients on anti-discrimination, sensitivity training, and diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI).
