What’s the most fulfilling part of your work, and how does that impact the way you approach each case?
The most fulfilling part of my work is helping a client understand and manage the complexities of resolving legal matters. The legal process can be complicated, and I approach each client with calmness, confidence and practicality.

Can you share an example of a time when you faced a particularly challenging case or situation and how you handled it?
I have had several challenging cases, but one that I can highlight involved a dispute between a mother and one of her adult children over the management of a family-owned real estate portfolio, and the associated distribution of assets in a family trust. In addition to resolving some complex legal issues, the matter involved managing the emotional and family dynamics.

How do you believe your background or experiences outside of law shape the way you practice?
As part of a family that values strong connections, I am particularly sensitive to client needs, especially in estate and probate matters, but also in other areas of practice, such as employment law. I have also done volunteer and charitable work, which keeps me grounded.

What role do you believe attorneys should play in their communities, and how do you personally get involved?
It’s very important to be involved. I have participated in a variety of community services, including serving on my local zoning board for years, as well as charitable and pro bono causes. For many years of my career, I provided counsel to women who were in abusive relationships who needed legal advice but could not afford a lawyer.

If a client were to work with you on a long-term basis, what would they come to know about you?
First, that I am always accessible. Second, that I am a straight shooter – I am honest in an assessment of a situation, and I do not tell a client only what they want to hear. So many times, I have had clients say to me that they appreciate my honesty and directness. I am a big proponent of the collaborative approach and believe that involving clients in the problem-solving and legal process leads to better cooperation, understanding and results.

What is your approach to working with colleagues or junior attorneys, and how do you help them navigate challenges in their careers?
I love collaborating with colleagues and junior attorneys. I have always been interested in mentoring and have done so throughout my career. I currently mentor many of the young attorneys here at the firm, reviewing their work and giving them feedback.
